Porsche Plans to Double its Investment in "Electromobility" Research by 2020

For decades, Porsche cars have been powered by some of the best and most powerful gasoline engines the world has ever seen. That remains true in the modern day, but other considerations have also begun to drive Porsche and its research in new and exciting direction.

With environment-conscious driving becoming prominent, Porsche is working to make sure it stays on the cutting edge of efficiency in the auto industry. Toward that end, the brand has announced its intention to bolster its investment in hybrid and electric engine research.

"We are doubling our expenditure on electromobility from around three billion euro to more than six billion euro," explained. Porsche AG's Chairman of the Executive Board, Oliver Blume. "Alongside development of our models with combustion engines, we are setting an important course for the future with this decision."

While the details of how the new money will be invested are still being worked out, Porsche has confirmed that it will be investing 500 million euros in the development of new Mission E variants and one billion euros to create new electric and hybrid models of its existing product lines. 700 million euros is expected to be put toward the development of new technologies.

What this means for Porsche drivers across the world is that the future may hold even more exciting options to drive their favorite cars more efficiently.
