It has been known for a while that Porsche has been designing an all-new, full-electric sports car. The working title for this electric performance vehicle has been "Mission E" during development. Now that the model is close to completion, a new name has been revealed: the Porsche Taycan.

The Porsche Taycan is a demonstration of Porsche's commitment to continuous automotive development. One of the next logical steps for performance and technology alike is to move into full-electric vehicles. Thus, Porsche conceived the Mission E. After a time of development, the Taycan naming revelation signals the nearing release of this exciting new sports car.

Porsche has not released the Taycan for sale yet, but there are a few key facts we can share.

Performance: With purely electric power from a twin-motor design, the Taycan produces an astonishing 600 horsepower. It's expected to sprint from zero to 60 mph in under 3.5 seconds and rush past 124 mph in under 12 seconds. Plus, it's maximum range of 300 miles means you can drive it without fear of getting stranded.

Naming: According to Porsche, the name Taycan means "a lively young horse." This points to the horse image seen in the Porsche crest.

Future Steps: Porsche has big plans for the Taycan. The company has set aside substantial funding for variants of the model through the next several years. Plus, it plans to bring technology from the Taycan into the rest of the new model lineup.

Production: Porsche says that the Taycan will start production in 2019. Until it arrives, feel free to reach out to any member of our staff to learn more about this exciting new model.
